Hello. Sorry I haven't been around here lately, I've had a few losses in the family and have had a hard time coping. I'd like to reintroduce myself to all of you who visit the boards here. My name is Brendan, and I am 15 years old, from southern California. Since December I have been helping Gail with this website, as far as the technical aspects go.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or ideas for Empowering Caregivers, just drop me a note and let me know. I better keep this short.

Thanks to all of you who visit Empowering Caregivers. Brendan

Welcome Brendan! Nice to meet you. I am so sorry to hear of your family losses. I hope that you can find the support and encouragement through the community. It's wonderful to meet you.

My name is Liisa, and I have identical twin girls and a two and a half year old son.
Hi Brendan,

My name is Terry. I have posted on this message board several times and find everybody extremely caring and supportive. I have always received replies to my concerns and Gail's advice (and others too) have gotten me through some rough times. Hope everybody else introduces themselves too. I'm an old married lady, 55 yrs. old, 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. My main reason for posting is re: my 84 yr. old Mom who has Alzheimer's. See my posts re: non-caring brother and the issue on contractures. Keep up the good work!!!

Hello Judy

I hope that since you are on AOL that you have come across some of the chats offered in the way of caregiving support to a parent. Empowering Caregivers offers a solid chat that is informative, nurturing and supportive should you care to visit with us. It is on Thursdays at 8pm est in the Mutual Support Room at the Better Health Forum on AOL.

Hope to seed you there.

Blessings to you

Hi everyone! First of all, Brendan, great job on the board! Hope all is well with you! {{Brendan}}

Gail you are awesome, this board, site, the chat and you personally are such a blessing to me! {{Gail}}

I live in SW Florida, my mom lives with us, she is 79 and has beginning stages of Alzheimer's. I am fortunate in that her health is good, she is a sweet lady who is still active in some activities. I have two boys, 20 & 18, and my DH and I are trying to figure out how to keep things running smoothly in the family. I can relate to the postings about siblings, my brother doesn't do anything except expect us to give him lots of money. I find relief and info in the chats that are available and in message boards, and my dear friend Gail and her gentle encouraging words. Looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Linda, a.k.a Linda Too

Hi! I am a 53 year old housewife and mother of 3 children, one still living at home, and grandmother to four beautiful children. I am the sole caregiver of my 84 year old mother who is losing her memory and has leukemia. I have 5 brothers, one who visits every two weeks most of the time.

In between, he and I converse via e-mail-- me with the problems and he with the very logical advice. I am the youngest child and he is the oldest, so we hit it off fairly well, both having a large sense of responsibility to our mother no matter what she was to us in the past.

Subject: RE: New Boards...
Hello, this is only my second time here and I am
really glad that I found this board. I am 51
with 5 children, one still at home, 9 grandkids
whom I adore. My husband is a para since 91 and
in constant pain. The constant pain and health
problems takes it toll on both of us. It sure is
nice to be able to talk to people who understand
how "I" feel. Thanks for being here!
Hi my name is Joan H. I have been caring for my parents since my father\'s stroke in'91. He died in Oct. 1996, and mother is now 90.

I have very little help from my two brothers. I am so glad that I found this outlet for my fears and anger. I think it is a great idea! I look forward to hearing more from all of you.

Hi my name is Judy, Haven't posted for a while. I am the sole caregiver to my mother who is 79. Have three sisters who couldn't care less about their mother. Have told me that it is not their problem. I just posted telling everyone what I have decided to do, take my life back and force them to step up to the plate and contribute. Thanks for this board, great place to come to vent
