Fortunately. my mother has excellent insurance coverage .. things are a bit tight for me financially, however, the restraints always come from my mother who doesn't want to spend the monies on herself. She wants to leave it to the children.

Many of our parents come from a generation that grew up in the depression. They worked hard all their lives and saved for their retirement. And now that retirement is almost nearing and end, they don't want to spend the money because they want to leave it for their children.

They don't want to sell their homes, sometimes not even because they know it is no longer appropriate to live in it because of size, costs etc., but because they want to leave it to their children... who may have no desire to move into it at all.

If my mother gives me a hard time, I look her straight in the eyes and tell her that I will write a check with the money she is leaving for me so that she can get the items she is in need of to make her life easier and to maintain the quality of her life. She usually behaves...
