My FIL passed away on Wednesday morning. He had been on such a roller coaster ride for the past 18 months. He was truly tired of fighting and decided he "just wanted to go." Since we live in SoCal and he resided in WA, my husband and I could not make it in time to be with him. I called a good friend of his and asked that she go to the hospital and be with him until he passed. She called after he breathed his last breath with a message from my FIL to his son, my husband, saying "we tried our best."

Thanks to all of you for the support that you have given to us for the past year and a half. This caregiving journey has been extremely stressful but at the same time, it was something I knew I had to do. If for no other reason, but to let him know that we loved him.

Dear Mikki:

I am so sorry to hear of you and your husband's loss. It is so hard to lose a parent. I remember when my FIL passed away, I never cried so hard as during his memorial service.

Thank you for posting and letting us know. Do not hesitate to post during this time if you feel the need. I think the only thing harder than caring for our elderly loved ones is losing them...

It is good that a dear friend was with him at the end. I am sure that he was secure in your love all the way. It definitely shown through in your postings how much care and concern you had for him during the last year and a half - with his best interests at heart first and foremost... God bless you and your hubby now, Mikki.

Love and Hugs from Glenda
