Dear Friends and Colleagues,

My name is Kristen (Morvillo) Dillon and I am a 4th year Clinical Psychology doctoral student at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.  I am writing to request your assistance in identifying potential participants for my doctoral research.  It is currently estimated that five million people in the United States have dementia and that 70-87% of people diagnosed with dementia are primarily cared for by family members. The primary aim of the study is to explore the experience of caregiving for a parent with dementia and the effect this might have on the adult child’s feeling of closeness to the parent  

People are eligible to participate in this study if they:

1.      Are at least 30 years old

2.      Are currently serving as a caregiver for a parent who has been diagnosed with dementia. This includes:

          a. providing at least 20 hours of direct care per week

          b. having cared for the parent for at least 6 months

          c. confirming that the parent was diagnosed with dementia by a healthcare           professional

3.     The caregiver, has never been diagnosed with depression, or sought treatment for depression

4. Able to complete an English-language survey over the Internet

Participation in this study will entail completing an online survey.  The survey involves completing a few short surveys and a short demographic form. Participation in the survey should take around 15 minutes.  If you are not eligible to participate in this study, please consider forwarding this e-mail to someone that is eligible or someone that knows of an eligible candidate.
