Reply to "What Do You Do When Your Loved One Refuses Outside Help?"

This happened to me. My Mom refused to see any doctor except the eye doctor. But, when she got really bad with the dementia, things started happening that MADE me take action. I took her car away, moved her into an assisted living apartment. She was mad, hurt, and very upset, which was only natural. But, she kept threatening to run away so the people at the apartments had her evaluated, with my permission, and this is how things got done. She was put into a physic ward at the hospital for 2 weeks, watched and evaluated and they determined she could not live in the apartment but needed to be in a secured envirement. That's where I moved her and now she is safe and I feel very good about it. I am very lucky in that this Alzheimer Care Center is new, clean and my Mother has a little money so we can be private pay for a while. She eats three meals a day, is clean and most of all, has calmed down. Some medication is given to help her be calm, but I am at peace because I know she is safe.
